Guardian of Rest

This is another tombstone from the St. Albans cemetery. I was really drawn to the woman sculpted here, not sure if she is a saint or quite possibly the Virgin Mary. She's beautiful in her simplicity and conveys a sense of comfort and peace as she stands, forever guarding over this resting place.

Yet another piece from the St. Albans cemetery. This statue resides atop a towering tombstone, watching over the entire cemetery. I find her face simultaneously serene and unnerving.

It kind of reminds me of this episode of Doctor Who:

Spidery Grave

This head stone resides in the very old St. Albans cemetery. I am very drawn to graves, especially old ones. The ornateness and the grandeur that went into some of these final resting places fascinates me. And I like reading the names and wondering who these people were. This spider is also wondering.
