Take That, Fire!

See?

You see this???

I have created fire! Mwahahahahaha!

A lovely, cozy fire all by myself and without melting any carpet! Unfortunately, there is no one here to see my masterpiece in flame, hence the photo to prove my inspired work.

Hmph. Figures! As soon at the husbands back is turned, I do something brilliant like NOT burn down the house.

Okay, so maybe lighting a fire in my fireplace isn't the worlds greatest achievement. But seeing as how I've failed miserably in all my previous attempts at making fire (campfires, fireplace fires, etc) this is a momentous occasion.

How shall I be rewarded for this?

I Have Succummed...

...to socks, that is. Yes, socks. I've had a hard time adjusting to this new cold weather, but as it was a mere 40 degrees today I decided it was best to put away the Sketchers 'Bikers' and pull out a pair of oxfords and some socks.

*sigh* Winter is here.

I'm not sure what it is about having my feet covered that I dislike so much. I appreciate the warmth of socks when, like tonight, it's well below freezing. And I like how shoes keep my feet from getting cut up from all the shards of glass in the streets. And yet I am always slipping off my shoes, which I usually wear sockless, under the desk at work or going out to my car for lunch so I can spend 30 uninterrupted minutes with my naked feet and a chicken sandwich.

Still...winter is here and it is far too cold for me to be annoyed by socks. So after work I popped over to the ladies department, hoping to find some practical and yet comfortable socks. And I did. And I also made a purchase of something I never thought I'd ever wear again.

Leg Warmers.

They're back, people! Returned from the 80's to haunt us all, and also keep our legs fashionably warm. Did I say fashionably? I meant hideously. Hideously warm.

Now I didn't purchase these to wear out in public over my leggings and with my high heels. Because I don't own leggings and I only wear high heels to special occasions and job interviews. I bought them simply to keep my lower extremities warm while futzing about the house. They work, too. And they don't annoy my feet in the slightest.

I have to say, though, that despite my intentions....they are growing on me a little bit. They are almost kinda sorta cute. For lounging in, anyway. And they have come a long way.....

Giving Thanks

I have much to be thankful for this year.

A loving husband who accepts me for who I am and forgives my many foibles,

A safe and cozy home,

Supportive friends and family,

Comedy Night Done Right on NBC Thursdays.

But what I am most thankful for this year is the good Karma that we have been blessed with.

This past year slammed us with some pretty tough news and a lot of challenges to over come. Being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, I thought, was going to be the hardest ordeal we would ever deal with. And it was. But it has also become a great gift, one that has so far given much more back to me than it has taken.

I have always been a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and that difficult experiences are merely opportunities for us to learn and grow. This was very easy to forget, however, when facing a debilitating disease. Yet this experience has given me strength I never knew I possessed, and brought me to a level of peace and contentment I didn't think I would ever reach. Life is viewed with a whole new perspective. And you know what? Life is good.

I have found myself renewed, and with a real need to do some good. I have been given so much, and it's time for me to "pay it forward". I have finally been able to put my worries on the back burner and start living again. I have put myself in the hands of Fate.

And guess what? Someone was paying attention. Someone is always paying attention.

Karma. It's a good thing.

And It Burns Burns Burns

This lovely little sign is now taped to my front door in the hopes that I will spare it a glance while dashing out the door at 5 minutes past the last minute.

Why? Glad you asked!

My morning routine, like many womens, includes the use of several heated electrical appliances such as a hair dryer, a flat iron and an iron (the regular kind...for pants and such). At least once a week I find myself driving to work and, when I'm much too far to turn back, wondering if I unplugged one of the aforementioned appliances. Usually I have, but I spend the whole of the day questioning myself, mentally retracing my steps and envisioning the burning inferno I will come home to. I really must teach one of the cats to answer the phone.

On the other side of the spectrum, however, are the days where I blissfully go about my business only to come home and find that I had left my molten-lava-hot flat iron on all day, inches away from plastic bottles of flammable styling products. Enter horrific fiery visions.

And so we come to today. I'm running behind, as usual, and I find that the pants I want to wear need some serious ironing. Okay...I can do that quick if I eat my breakfast in the car. I wander into the other room where the ironing board is kept, and find that the iron is already on it. And already hot. Huh. That's odd because the last time I ironed was yesterday morning.......

Oh. Crap.

The iron was plugged in and left hot atop a wobbly, unstable ironing board for a FULL 24 HOURS! Genius. Bloody brilliant. I slept a blissful sleep, in complete ignorance of the impending doom just a room away. I feel very fortunate that last night the cats decided to abandon their frequent plotting of how to get on top of the ironing board and instead decided to sleep on our bed in such ways as to make it physically impossible for us to move our legs.

As I've said, this isn't the first time I've done something like this (the flat iron being the most typical culprit). However this seems to be occurring more and more frequently and in increasing, uh, variety as described here by my husband. I didn't really care for that rug anyway.

I'm really not stupid, just increasingly forgetful. Or perhaps I am a simply a suppressed pyromaniac. Either way, I am looking into different games and 'exercises' that can help boost memory, and in the mean time I am leaving myself a LOT of notes . Notes are my friends.

Boy, I Learn Something New Every Day!

Anyone know what this is?

Me neither.

Or at least I didn't until earlier today. I came across this during my daily perusal of Green Daily .

Now I'm all about living green. Something lit a spark in me and my husband this past year and it has ignited a flame of world-saving motivation. If only I had this kind of motivation in the office or towards my laundry. We've given up paper towels, plastic bags and bottles and 90% of our personal care and beauty products are now organic and/or chemical free. We unplug everything! so as to not waste stand-by energy and buy local and organic whenever possible. Oh, and the household cleaners....all natural, chemical free. Look at us go!

But I feel there is still much more we can do, and I'm always looking for new ways and ideas to help us do our part to help the planet.

Ahem.

The Diva Cup , ladies, is a reusable menstrual cup worn internally during the menstrual cycle and is made from durable medical grade silicone, which is 100% hypoallergenic and suitable for women with latex allergies.

My first reaction.....what the? Oh hell no. But I read on......

The vagina is continually self-cleansing, washing away dead cells and bacteria. Tampons absorb the natural fluids that we need to keep the vagina clean and moist. The cup is non-absorbent and simply collects the menstrual flow, leaving the natural moisture level in the vagina undisturbed.

Wow, my vagina is self-cleansing? Cool! I thought only my oven did that!

Apparently menstrual cups are not a new idea, the first one being invented in 1937 by an American actress, Leona Chalmers. Imagine that...a woman invented this.

So then, as I occasionally do, I get to thinking....this does sounds a lot more sanitary and safer (from a toxic shock standpoint) than tampons, not to mention it eliminates all that waste. It's not really that gross, is it? After all, people use reusable diapers. We're not washing poop here, just a little blood. It's kind of economical too, since one cup is about one-quarter the cost of a years worth of disposable tampons. It kinda makes sense. And, much to my own personal astonishment, I find myself actually WANTING TO TRY THIS! Wow. Sometimes I surprise even myself.

And get this...they have a money back guarantee. So if I don't like it, I can RETURN it! I can actually return something I've had up my self-cleansing hoo-ha? Now that's customer service!

Hello World

Hi.

So this is my blog. I plan to post loads of interesting and provocative things, but as it's 11:37pm I think for now I'll just tell you that I am going to sleep. Perhaps I'll dream something interesting.

More to come later.
