My grandfather had a passion for typewriters. He started out working for Royal and eventually opened his own business, Mecham's Typewriters, which was on the same property as his home. We often spent days at Grandma and Grandpa's house, and would walk over to his shop to watch him work on typewriters and to get gum out of the gumball machine he kept in his office (when you're 7, putting a penny in a gumball machine and turning that big metal knob is about the greatest thing ever). I still remember the smell of the cleaning chemicals and the oils he used. He ran that business successfully for almost 30 years, until he passed away in 1997. This was one of his personal typewriters. It still works beautifully.
